She's A Crier

I had a pretty interesting weekend...from what I can remember anyway!
Saturday started off pretty normal.
I woke up around 3pm...dragged around a bit...made some tuna fish (Yum!)
...watched some bad TV...surfed the net...yada, yada, yada...washed my ass and
headed out the door around 8pm...here's what I wore:

tank: juicy couture
jeans: express
faux chanel purse: goodwill

So my bf and I decided to go to Atlantic Station...
I know, I know, there are so many more neighborhoods in Atlanta with more personality
but we really like Strip for the atmosphere (especially in the summer), he likes steak, I ♡ sushi and I really dig the stripper pole...
(more on that some other time!)

anyway we had to wait an hour and a half to get a table
so we got one of those light-up pager thingies and made our way to the bar upstairs
and thats when all the fun (read:drinking) began...
Strip has this drink called a "Bubble Bath" that I adore, its champagne, peach schnapps, and something else...

so I had two of those but they weren't "working" so I got a peach martini
which goes against my plan to drink only champagne...(not really practical, I'm sure)
the martini should have been my limit but we had to get wine with dinner so I had a glass of merlot with my tuna steak (more tuna yum, yum!)
By this time I'm feeling really nice...

We left the Station and went to another one of our favorite spots,  Django
As soon as I walked into the spot I found myself at the bar ordering yet another drink
(I don't know why its like a natural thing to walk straight to the bar)
this time I opted for a limon drop martini...my fave!

So we go down stairs and danced on the stage like we usually do...
after gettin it in we went to the bar to get some water and cool off...
all of a sudden, out of nowhere, I start crying hysterically!!

...yes, I admit I am a crier. I cry at movies, commercials, etc.
but never have I gotten so drunk that I just wanted to cry!

According to my bf
(who is so sweet for puting up with my crazy ass)
I was crying about any and everything...

I thought I saw a homeless guy sleeping behind the club so I cried harder
and after my bf assured me that no one was under the cardboard boxes
I spotted a blue care bear near the dumpsters and damn near passed out at the sight
(who throws a teddy away!?!)

I begged my bf to rescue the teddy and put him in the back seat of the car!
of course he did (Im so damned spoiled☺) and we took the teddy home...so I thought
this morning I woke up with a hangover and no teddy
my bf threw the "crack bear" away...again, I guess it was his time

I really need to get out more and not drink as much...

Today we went to a dirty old pub in the same clothes we wore yesterday(luv it), ate huge cheese burgers (mine turkey, yum!) with beer (to help with the hangover) and watched
the laker game(lakers lost)

I wish I had pictures of the teddy and those burgers but my big relic of a digital camera
didn't quite fit into my faux chanel
...fashion first!

It might not sound like much but I had a really good weekend.
good food, good drinks, good company...what more can you ask for?

Sexy Secretary

Nah, I'm neither...But I'm still pretty darn sexy!
(disregard the pose)

Secretary Blouse: Forever 21
Grey Trousers: The Limited
(I'm working on my descriptives and Grey screams British)
Kitten Heels: "Vintage" Gloria Vanderbilt's from Goodwill
(You probably know her for the jeans, but she actually has an interesting history)
Skinny Belt: Target
Silver Hoops: Claire's
Bangle Bracelets: Purchased in Austria
(Although I'm sure similar one's can be found here)
But, I got mine in Austria!

While posting this post I began to think about
how inspirational the "sexy secretary" look is to the fashion industry
If you don't believe me, here is the proof:

For you youngins
or those of you that didn't find yourself singing along
to the title song, this is 9 to 5
(A Very Important Movie of which I actually own a copy)

Notice the great career looks of the movie's starring ladies?

Since the release of 9 to 5
the sexy secretary look has been recreated and reinterpreted over & over...
(although we must give credit to Mary Tyler Moore)

9 to 5 showcased a more fun and quirky side to the sexy secretary
and Mary Tyler Moore wasn't even a secretary so...anyway

here are some designer sexy secretary looks:

Chanel

Marc Jacobs

Now that you are thoroughly inspired
pull out your neck tie blouse, pencil skirt and cardigan
and get your ass to work!

Meanwhile, I will continue to avoid getting a 9 to 5 like the plague

If only I could fill out my blouse like Dolly...

Long Time, No Post

I do apologize for my absence, but I tend to disappear from time to time, so get use to it!!

Besides, its been one hell of a week!

Really, it hasn't been so bad, just school stuffs...you know, lots of readings to read, writings to write and such.

But academia is sOoo much more tolerable than working in the "real world".  (trust me, i've been there, and done that)

So keep in mind that when I complain about school work I'm really just reveling.

As I mentioned, I have been very engrossed in my studies.  So engrossed in fact, that I did not give a rat's ass what I looked like.

Really, it wasn't that bad, I just happened to wear the same pair of jeans a total of 3 days out of this week, with random shirts found strewn about my bedroom.

The important thing is that I got dressed and I got to class on time (which means I got up at 5:00 am to be ready by 6:00 am to make a 1 1/2 hour drive to my 8:00 am class in Athens).

But, remember I'm not complaining.  Really!

The point I'm trying to make is that I fell off the fashion wagon.  I don't have any pictures to prove my unbecomingness.  This is a good thing.

What I do have is a photo montage, if you will, of randomness aside my studying, from this week in my life:

Here goes ...

This was actually from Saturday, but I really felt this outfit (as you can see!)

The high-waisted jeans are from Forever 21, the cami and shrug are from Express.  The shoes are from Aldo.  That face is priceless!

A pale imitation of my girl Kelis
(I think not!)

I met a parrot named Tequila, at a liquor store, of course.

Looks like Toucan Sam...
(strangely, I never adopted that as a nickname)

She whistled at me like a construction worker!

Which confirmed my cuteness but made me
wonder if animals have a sexual orientation?

We got snow!
I'm from South Carolina so this type of thing excites me!

Look at how beautiful it is!
video

Another bit of randomness...

I was fortunate enough, to be able to watch
the House of Paine last night
(I don't know what it is about that show)

Eva was guest starring.

I'm glad she's still doing her thing,
but i think her best role was on ANTM

Preppy School Girl Chic

No, I'm not a prep (though I do own a copy of the Official Preppy Handbook), by definition I couldn't be one anyway, but I must admit I am drawn to the classic style.  I like to mix it up with my "urban" and trendy pieces.  Since this was the first week of school and I attend a decidedly preppy university I was inspired to dress scholarly even if I wasn't feeling particularly so.

Prep Persona #1

I recently bought this jumper dress from Express for 30 bucks.  They are having there annual up to 70% off clearance sale.  I thought it had potential because it is quite classic and you can put just about any kind of top under it to create different looks.

I like how it shows off my little pot-belly! The split in the back was kinda up there too, which is probably why I got so many looks that day! I think I'm gonna sew it up or find some thicker tights for the next time I wear it.

The button down shirt is from New York and Company, I like to get basics from there.

Those are my Nine West boots that I seem to wear with everything.

And I had to wear my Ralph Lauren specs, tres preppy!

Prep Persona #2

Those preppy frat boys, with their navy blue blazers, kaki pants and loafers inspired this look!

The jacket is from forever 21.

The pink button down is from the Gap.

The Jeans are from Urban Outfitters

The flats are by Marc Fisher from Macy's.

Prep Persona #3

This is what I like to call laid back preppy.

Thursday is the new Friday.

The turtleneck is from Express.

The tank and the corduroy's are from Old Navy.

The pink loafers are from Naturalizer, the most comfortable shoes in the world.

So, there you go, your dose of Samii Styles! Enjoy your weekend peeps, I know I will!

Analogue Girl in A Digital World

I hope everyone had a great week back at school.  My week was extremely hectic to say the least.  All of my classes and professors seem to be pretty cool so I'm looking forward to an exciting semester.  Plus, spring is on the way and I am definitely a warm weather freak!

Anyway, an assignment in one of my classes made me think of the subject of this next post:
Ms. Erykah Ba-a-a-du-u-u!

We had to write a description of a song that best represents our identity and I chose Ms. Badu's "Cleva" off her 2nd album Mama's Gun released in 2000.  I'm a long time Badu fan, so it was only fitting that I used one of her songs and I really feel like this song describes me.

Read my essay:

In the song, “Cleva”, written by Erykah Badu, the artist describes her physical and mental state.  I identify with this song because I identify with the writer with whom I share commonalities. We both were born in the southern region of the United States, we both are former teachers, and we both have an affinity for “afro centric” and eclectic hairstyles and fashion amongst other things. Furthermore, we both consider ourselves to be clever individuals. In the song Ms. Badu explains that even though her body is not in the best of shape and her appearance may not be up to par, she has recognized other aspects of herself, such as her clever rhyming skills, that overshadow these “deficiencies”.  I too share Ms. Baud’s body conscious sensibility, and although I am not musically inclined, my cleverness does not go unnoticed, most of the time anyway.  My writing style, sense of humor and taste in fashion are all personal characteristics that have been praised by others at one point or another.  That said, just as Ms. Badu states, “but why come I’m the last to know”, I find myself doubting my abilities to do the things that make me who I am.  I hate to admit that no matter how clever or “fly” I may appear on the outside, inside I still often struggle with the common insecurities that most 20 something women experience.  However, through growth and self-discovery I hope to become the confident and clever woman I portray outside, inside as well.  Only then can I sing along with Ms. Badu proclaiming, “I’m alright with me”, and truly mean it.

Hear and see Ms. Badu performing "Cleva" here:

If you haven't heard, Ms. Badu is scheduled to drop her 4th studio album(s), a two disc set titled "Nu AmErykah", on February 26, 2008.

On the title of the new album, which was previously titled "The Kabah", Ms. Badu states: "I named this album 'Nu AmErykah' because I'm dealing with whatever is to come instead of what was.  In taking on a project like this, I'm taking the responsibility to talk for my race and my planet." Source: Billboard.com

She's such a revolutionary!

The first track released, "Honey", was produced by former Little Brother producer and Carolina (go Cakalaki!) native 9th Wonder, who has his own album "
